PURPOSE OF ANTI-SLAPP LAWS The purpose of anti-SLAPP laws is to prevent litigants from suing and threatening suit as a means of stifling speech on issues of public concern. Hence, the trial court lacks authority to consider a motion for leave to file an amended complaint once the stay is in effect. Expression Prot. 30, 31-32 (2022).
