In pretrial litigation , judicial notice requests are used in pleadings to establish some needed fact without an attesting witness. It may be easier, for example, to have the court take judicial notice of the weather conditions on a certain day versus tracking down a witness to attest to it. 201(f); see also Cal. Code § 457.
